Gerald "Gerry" Lee Geisert, of Lincoln, NE, former resident of Ogallala, NE, age 89, passed away, Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at the Harbor House in Lincoln. Gerry was born April 13, 1930, in the old Ogallala, NE hospital to Edward Adolph and Louise (Behrends) Geisert. Gerry was baptized in St. John’s Lutheran Church, southeast of Ogallala. He started school at the Rural School District, he attended this school through 8th grade. At the age of 12 Rev. G. H. Boehnke at St. John’s Lutheran church confirmed him. He entered Ogallala High School in 1943 and graduated in 1947. Through this period of time he lived and worked with his parents on the family farm 5 miles southwest of Roscoe, NE. Gerry attended college at Winfield, KS, but was called home when his father’s health was in jeopardy. In 1951 he was drafted into the army and was honorably discharged in 1953. While in the army he spent one year as a Chaplin’s Assistant in Yokohoma, Japan. After returning from service in 1953, he returned to farming with his father. Gerry married RoseMary Castner in 1958, in Sidney, NE. The couple moved to the Geisert Farmsted. They continued farming until they retired leaving the farming to son, Nathan. Gerry’s interest, aside from farming was in the field of music. He completed 50+ years as a church organist and sang for many weddings and funerals in the community. In 1946-47, he had his own radio show at KRVN in Lexington, NE. Other hobbies include restoring and preserving items that were used on the family farm going back to the homestead days. He was preceded in death by; his parents; 1 grandson, Grant Christian Geisert (son of Timothy and Jennifer); 1 brother, Eldon Edward; 1 sister, Maxine Heitshusen; 1 sister-in-law, Lobenia Estelle (Snipes) Geisert; 2 brother-in-laws, Donald Deterding; Richard Heitshusen; and 1 great granddaughter, Mara Joy Workentine (daughter of Pastor Ben & Kim Workentine.) Gerry is survived by; his wife RoseMary and their children; Rev. Paul (Elizabeth) Workentine, of Roanoke, VA; Kristin Geisert; Timothy (Jennifer) Geisert, all of Lincoln, NE; Nathan and (Valarie) Geisert, of Ogallala; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Connie Deterding, of Lincoln. Visitation will be held, Thursday, August 29, 2019 from 3:30-4:30 (CST) in the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, in Lincoln, NE. Funeral Services will be held, Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. (CST) from St. Mark’s Lutheran Church 3930 S. 19th Street in Lincoln, NE with Pastor Joel Vogel officiating. Visitation in Ogallala, NE will be held, Friday, August 30, 2019 from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. (MST), from the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside Services will be held, Friday, August 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. (MST) in the Ogallala Cemetery with, (grandson) Pastor Ben Workentine of St. Mark's Lutheran from Green Bay, WI, officiating with Military Honors by the Keith County Honor Guard. Memorials have been suggested to the Nebraska Lutheran High School in Waco, NE: 203 Kendall St, Waco NE 68460. Arrangements by Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln.
